Saint Laurent Rive Droite – The Winter Game

Latisha Fleckenstein hits the slopes with Saint Laurent's new capsule colleciton

In his continued quest to explore various ways to expand the house of Saint Laurent, creative director Anthony Vaccarello ventures ever deeper into the sportswear universe.  As a result, Saint Laurent Rive Droite is back with a sports-inspired capsule collection called The Winter Game. This new collection has been conceived of in collaboration with renowned sports equipment manufacturers and encompasses exclusively designed products extending across many different types of sports such as skiing, snowboarding, luge and basketball.

Saint Laurent Rive Droite itself has become something of a creative and cultural destination since Vaccarello assumed the big chair.  Named ‘Rive Droite’ as a reference to the original ’Rive Gauche’ line started by Yves Saint Laurent in the sixties, the spin-off helped to democratise fashion and luxury by being the first ready-to-wear store to carry a couturier’s own name.  Fifty years later, Vaccarello’s Rive Droite is yet again at the forefront of democratising fashion, this time by injecting a one-of-a-kind spirit of luxury into subcultures like skateboarding, hip hop and design.  Rive Droite is here to introduce us to a brand new retail experience of expression, exchange, and lifestyle; showcasing a wide range of products including exclusive pieces, limited editions, music and photography – and all combined with art, performances, exhibitions, events, and cultural exchanges.

And nothing screams exclusivity quite like the colour black. The Winter Game’s colour palette is dominated by a sleek crisp black, along with the occasional flashes of gold and white to complete the Saint Laurent signature colours.  Highlights from the capsule include the exclusive ski and snowboards made in collaboration with ‘the world’s finest ski makers’, ZIA.  There’s even an exclusive black sledge created with Alpine design company Sirch.  Developed with the official NBA basketball manufacturer, Spalding, the traditional basketball is also reimagined through a luxury lens with unique black snakeskin effects.  Rive Droite also teamed up with New Era to create a version of their iconic 9FORTY cap in black that is embroidered with a playful take on the YSL logo on the front, instead of their more familiar ‘NY’ graphic.

As Anthony Vaccarello continues to embrace new ways to enlarge the universe and the DNA of Saint Laurent, the brand continues to develop extensive and diversified new creations from different creative and design perspectives.  One thing is clear, Saint Laurent Rive Droite represents a lighter, more accessible but still very chic version of today’s glamorous Saint Laurent universe.
