POSTER GIRL SS23 – London Fashion Week

Nostalgia and femininity were at the core of the POSTER GIRL collection shown at London Fashion Week for next season. Conceived of by creative team Francesca Capper and Natasha Somerville, the designers introduced their ‘Sex Never Left’ SS23 story infused with a contrast of deep purples, ultra-feminine pinks and neutral toned palettes.
Showcased at Victoria House, the set itself was all-white basement studio with surround lighting – the perfect blank canvas to focus the eyes on every detail of the collection. Silk chiffons flowed from skirts, dresses and sleeves, and draped the micro looks in subtle movement. The brand-iconic heart crystal returned to POSTER GIRL shapewear, and were added to leather and chiffon pieces, with metal heart eyelets making space for organically laced seams and skirt splits.
On a number of looks belts improvised as collars, shoulder straps and cross-bust closures – the kind of playful and quirky aesthetic that has become synonymous with the brand. Oversized bolero jackets had belts with extravagant rhinestone buckles at the hem and incorporated into the lapel. Boots were embellished and wrapped in different textured fabrics, while shoes were pointed at the toe and continued the buckle detailing theme. The jewellery, made in collaboration with Hugo Kreit, only served to enhance the glam, ‘sex-core’ appeal of the collection.
Capper and Somerville visualised the SS23 collection as their definition of ‘sexy,’ and drew significant style inspiration from their own individual lives. Incorporated into that we saw references from their AW21 collection, and with it, a glimpse into the evolution of their maturity in design and the excitement of what’s to come next.
For next summer, it will be POSTER GIRL’s first foray into the luxury bags market. Four new styles will be hitting the shelves, all distinguished by the buckle motif seen in the rest for the story. A perfect way to complete the outfit.
