The Gucci Circolo Shoreditch

Lestine Manduakila does a little window shopping at the new Gucci pop-up store

In celebration of its centennial anniversary, Gucci opened its latest hangout, Gucci Circolo Shoreditch, a temporary multi-sensory retail space in the spirited centre of East London.  This follows the release of a new limited ready-to-wear collection titled Gucci 100, created by Alessandro Michele in honour of the Italian house’s centenary year.  The new custom space offers a greater experience than just a boutique, however.  The championing of the house and its heritage can be gleaned instantaneously from the signature “GG” monogram that adorns the exterior of the building conceived of by celebrated British architect Sir David Adjaye.

Inside, visitors are taken on an expedition that starts with the showcase Gucci 100 collection.  The colourful pieces make the perfect accompaniment for an exceptional interior design that features dark wood-panelled walls and Gucci’s Glade Print wallpaper design.  You are then invited into a bespoke bookstore installed in collaboration with cult librarians IDEA.  The curated bookstore offers tomes dedicated to the world of art, fashion, photography and that of the famous Italian house itself – like Beaten & Blown By the Wind by super photographer Bruce Gilden and Dapper Dan’s Harlem by equally celebrated snapper Ari Marcopoulos, for example.

Venturing deeper into the adventure, the journey continues as you are welcomed into the Listening Lounge; a place to celebrate Gucci’s long-established relationship with music.  Famous musicians like Phoebe Bridgers, Celeste, Billie Eilish, Sir Elton John, Arlo Parks and many more who Gucci can count as personal friends, all selected the music for the unique space.  Here, visitors are also offered the opportunity to download a special playlist in honour of Gucci’s centenary.

It doesn’t end there either.  No shopping experience is complete without a place to get some good refreshments and the Gucci Café, serving everything from lattes to Americanos, is designed to be the meeting hub for creatives and artists alike to relax and connect in amongst the lush fauna and Gucci-printed pillows.  The Gucci Circolo concept is even set to keep evolving over the next few months, with the experimental space being continually reinvented and reimagined to reflect the ever-changing calendar of events and collections as they arise.

The Italian house has spent much of its century-long existence fostering a great allegiance with, and a level of respect from their customers.  Their commitment to pushing the constraints of imagination and creativity in luxury fashion underwrites this unique project for the house.  Particularly when you realise that, with a little time in between, no two visits will really ever be the same.
