Giorgio Armani Men’s SS24 – Milan Fashion Week

For the Giorgio Armani Men’s SS24 collection at Milan Fashion week, the iconic Italian designer brought everything back to the story.  Over the decades the chapters have been building one upon the other with intertwining narratives and new synopses on cut, construction, luxury and an inimitably Italian sense of style.  The latest collection delivered on those foundations with a sophisticated ease.

The subplots saw traditional codes and easy silhouettes with longer lines alongside cultured tailoring, geometric motifs and contemporary finishes.  Contrary to conventional wisdom, Armani’s summer next year will be layered rather than bare.  Jackets were worn shirtless, with waistcoats and silk scarves around necks to catch the evening breeze.

Equestrian influences were seen in the patterned cardigans or colour-blocked loose knit sweaters worn with jockey caps that acted as mounts for the obligatory Armani sunglasses.  The signature Nehru jacket made frequent welcome cameos while loose trousers came hemmed above the ankle perfect for a summer of slip-ons and sandals.

The colour palette moved seamlessly through neutral, sand and muted blue tones for an effortlessly cooling aura.  Relaxed suits shimmered in the light and featured pleated trousers sporting elasticated or belted waists.  The details in the collection also managed to tell their own stories.  Knitted crossbody bags with leather shoulder straps, colour-matched pocket squares and eye-catching weaved belts served as the perfect foils to the showier accessories like the luxury travel bags and jaunty trilby-style hats.

The highlight came with the looks in fresh summer white.  Chic V-necked polo shirts with navy blue trims, comfortable short-sleeved jackets and crisp cargo pants with oversized pockets answered all questions about what to wear on the yacht next summer.  In the end, as always, Mr. Armani’s new chapter of his menswear story added to his already much talked about legend in fashion.
