Dior has always been synonymous with sophisticated craftsmanship, and the House continues to exhibit the same refinement with the new handmade range of CD Diamond glasses. The new release celebrates Dior’s ethos of dexterity and handiwork, but this time manifesting in its new sunglasses collection.
Established in 1974, the CD diamond pattern was devised by Mark Bohan, and transformed the initials into a hallmark of Dior elegance. Over time, the emblem has accented blouses, scarves, handbags, and has been championed by Kim Jones. It now makes it first appearance on men’s sunglasses. Here, the temples feature a meticulously crafted diamond motif, and the classic CD Diamond logo at the hinges. The laser engraved Christian Dior signature on the lenses add an extra feel of modernity. Precision and careful execution make for a starkly graphic impact. And, while they come in a variety of shapes and sizes, each style maintains that same consistent and cool sharpness. Some are simple and minimalist, others feature contrasting tones, like cool blue against tortoiseshell frames.
These hypnotic CD Diamond glasses combine intricate, refined hand-craftsmanship with urbane savoir-faire. Each one requires several stages of production before reaching the stores – beginning with a well-measured sketch – and the exacting process delivers sunglasses as precise and as polished as the gem they’re named after. They may well become just as precious (to your accessories drawer) too. It’s not often you’ll come across glasses that are made in the same way an horologist makes a watch.
CD Diamond now extends the Dior philosophy of les petites mains to glasses made to last just as long as Bohan’s career at the House. Without compromising class, they reflect a contemporary flair that is unmistakable. Nothing is too loud. There are no ‘look at me’ colours. It will be that second look as you walk by that will tell you all about the real quality of these glasses. For Dior, that’s just as it should be,
