Chloé Fast Girl
Ebonee Emani takes a look at the new capsule collection from the French House.
This summer, Gabriela Hearst reveals what it means to be a perfectionist with Chloé Fast Girl, a prompt reaction to our new world dynamics. The campaign for the limited-edition capsule collection presents us with a female character on the go and in precision. Every action is deliberate and considered. Fast Girl encourages us to be the ruler of our movements, not just within a physical world but also in a virtual one.
Honouring female racing drivers everywhere, the new capsule pays tribute to those who dare to be feminine in a ‘masculine’ arena. The Formula 1 influences are clear. The chequered flag that hems the biscuit and cream maxi skirt is unmistakable. The pit lane chevrons at the knees of the black and white trousers, equally so. Hearst wants to embody what it means to have such power in a moment of speed, and such control in a moment of grace.
Creating a silhouette that contours the body with stitching, we have a knitted dress cut from lower impact fine wool that creates a fluid drape from waist to ankle. The colours in the long sleeves on the silk crêpe dress recalls the flags above the stadium on race day. Even a Chloé favourite, the sustainably-conscious Nama sneakers, have been updated to reference the ‘bolder, slicker’ racing designs worn in years gone past.
As always, Hearst takes the bold approach with her designs. The sporty leather handbag to the collection can also be styled as crossbody, and comes with stitch detailing and striking red handles to contrast the black and white panelling. The colour blocking on the matching knitted top and trousers tells another story of stark contrasts, with the stitch detailing making an appearance here also.
Fittingly, the campaign images from photographer Zoe Ghertner are set against a vivid blue sky all the way down to the horizon. Our model is captured in motion, as one must be when in the middle of a long road. At times it looks like she’s even lunging for the finishing line. It would be wise not to let her get ahead of you in the race for the new Fast Girl collection.
