CHANEL Cruise 2021/22 Ad Campaign

Shot by photographic team Inez & Vinoodh, CHANEL’s campaign for the 2021/2022 Cruise Collection is set on one of the many golden beaches in the South of France.  The vast landscape and dynamic lighting in the campaign combines to present an elegant and picturesque background for the equally like-minded new collection.  Each look offers a unique sense of fortitude – the next stronger than the last – against a welcoming backdrop that frames the clothes beautifully.

The composite style of the collection manages to capture punk subcultures and ostentatious femininity by utilising heavy fabrics, monotone pairings, and bold accessories contrasted with jewel adornments, signature checks in pink and flowing capes.  Elsewhere, subtle tributes are paid to maritime dreams with cashmere fishnet weaves and jewelled sea life charms and accessories.  Sleek outlines continue this motif, with recognisable cruise ship silhouettes alluded to in the geometric triangular shapes of the white wrap top.

The images from Inez & Vinoodh add further context to this story by capturing their subjects as though they were either two ships calming passing at a distance, or bearing right down on us at sea.  Even the hair design plays an active character in the story, as the naturally coloured and cut styles further reflect the collection’s angular compositions.  The final dimension is completed with models Louise de Chevigny, Mahany Pery, Lola Nicon and Anna Ewers each adding their own unique chapters to the overarching tale being told.

While CHANEL’s SS21 ready-to-wear collection featured a range of primary and neon palettes, the Cruise collection offers an alternative, chic yet playful presence that speaks to the origins of the cruise collection as a concept.  There’s even a nod to safe sailing security with boating appropriate small heels on shoes and boots.  Strength and unapologetic boldness are in abundance on this cruise.  The collection can be discovered in CHANEL boutiques now.
