Chanel COCO BEACH Collection
Sian Cuthbert Davis is taken on vacation with Virginie Viard's new collection
For summer 2022, Chanel invites the beautiful Margret Qualley to showcase the new COCO BEACH collection. The talented actress leaned on her famed acting skills to pose effortlessly in front of the camera as ambassador of the luxury fashion House. Adventuring to far away horizons, the collection picks us up and transports us all to the tranquil Mediterranean for the summer.
Conceived under the enchanting spell of the sun, the line was first unveiled by Karl Lagerfeld in 2018 as a tribute to Gabrielle Chanel’s love for the sea, the sun and the great outdoors. Chasing those same reveries, Virginie Viard reinvents the vision of the collection while still honouring Lagerfeld’s legacy. Her creative journey brings us a new collection that is ‘fun and full of the freedom of summer,’ to paraphrase Qualley. Viard has encapsulated the femininity of summertime fashion, while incorporating the very emblems of opulence that are so deeply embedded into the origins of the luxury fashion House.
When summer arrives, many of us will no doubt be grateful to have the new opportunities the past two summers didn’t allow us. For those with the relaxing getaway in mind, this collection features elegant yet comfortable garments to keep you company. From the beachcomber two-piece jacket and wrap mini in the famous Chanel tweed check, to the laced-up one-piece swimsuit customised with pearl embellishments that recalls the fashion label’s long history.
Accompanying the new collection in support of Viard’s vision, Lachlan Bailey brings his whimsical and dreamy cinematography to the story being told. The new COCO BEACH campaign embodies ‘an art de vivre,’ with the images capturing stolen moments and wistful contemplation at the end of a day. The story continues with the campaign film, with shots of Qualley bringing the collection to life against imposing stone walls and the branches of bougainvillea. “The pieces in this collection are at once fantastically luxurious and easy going, a seemingly impossible feat,” says Qualley, “but not in the hands of Virginie Viard!” And, so say we all.
