CHANEL announces a first ever collaboration for the French-American actor
In a surprise announcement that is likely to send flutters through the fashion industry (and quite a few hearts), CHANEL have revealed future Hollywood giant Timothée Chalamet as the new face and ambassador for the BLEU DE CHANEL fragrance for 2023. While the news itself might be a surprise, the fact that someone as forward thinking and progressive as Chalamet teaming up with the iconic fashion House is not. After all, they both share French roots, contemporary appeal and a desire to always create and innovate.
‘Timothée Chalamet personifies the visionary and edgy spirit of the next chapter of BLEU DE CHANEL,’ reads the press release. And who could argue? Chalamet has already defined a career marked by bold and compelling artistic choices in his 27 years. From small, introspective independent films like Call Me by Your Name – for which he was nominated for a Best Actor Academy Award – to huge Hollywood sci-fi dramas with an edge like 2014’s Interstellar and, of course, 2021’s epic Frank Herbert adaptation Dune and the forthcoming highly-anticipated sequel, Dune: Part Two. In between there have been political asides with Leonardo Dicaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in Don’t Look Up and period romances with Florence Pugh and Saoirse Ronan in Little Women.
It’s the kind of list of career highlights that should telling anyone observing from afar that Chalamet is a different kind of talent for a new type of world. Should it be any further surprise then to learn that two of his future roles are going to be portraying the legendary Bob Dylan and the young version of the madcap Willy Wonka? It’s because of this creative talent that CHANEL tapped the young actor for his first ever fashion collaboration of any kind.
That’s not even the end of the exciting news! The new campaign for BLEU DE CHANEL, shot by Mario Sorrenti, will be released next month with by a campaign film directed by the one and only Martin Scorsese following in the autumn. Layer upon layer upon layer of truly inspiring creative talent. It’s just what CHANEL does.
