Miu Miu Jockey Club 2020 Review

Miu Miu goes to the races for their Club 2020 collection

There have been some fantastic venues utilised over the show season for this past month – Saint Laurent bringing their Moroccan inspired Menswear 2020 collection to the beaches of Malibu or Louis Vuitton taking over JFK Airport in New York for their Cruise 2020 collection, for example.  The world is a stage for luxury fashion and they just will not be confined to dedicated show venues anymore.  While that may make it little harder – and a more expensive – for those whose jobs it is to cover and report back on these new collections, it certainly makes for a more unique and memorable experience while there.

Enter Miu Miu, who collaborated with long time Dutch architectural and urban design partner AMO to put on a spectacular show for their Club 2020 collection.  Together they took over the Hippodrome d’Auteuil in Paris, the famous 33-hectare horse racing course first opened in 1873.  Miu Miu put on a whole program of events (yes, including a horse race) in addition to their fantastically received fashion show.  AMO built a giant wooden promenade in front of the long spectators area that served as the catwalk for a show that took place at sunset outside in the warm Parisian summer.

The world’s fashion press sat with a throng of invited celebrities to watch a fashion show that exuded the playfulness and high design aesthetics that Miu Miu is famous for.  Chief among those playful designs were the big shorts with wide turn-ups that appeared in various muted tones and fabrics, even black leather.  They were teamed with long loose coats or shorter tailored jackets that made the whole look comfortable yet adorably sophisticated.  And it wasn’t only the shorts that were big to match the size of the venue.  Big shoulders were back in a big way.  Not quite the same stark architectural angles of the 1980s but enough to present a very defined silhouette as the theme of the collection.

Miu Miu’s natural appeal to the younger generation was also on display with the socks and chunky sandals combinations, the ‘granny’ dresses with the contrasting big pouffy half-sleeves, and the oversized floppy headwear that also came down the catwalk.  Young, fun and for the sun, Miu Miu’s Club 2020 collection will likely to be the first past the post next summer.
