KSUBI KUSTOM 2022 Collection

Georgia Hambury looks at the new limited-edition collection that has just landed from KSUBI

Today, the fashion-buying public will be able to purchase and wear KSUBI’s celebrated personalised and hand-finished clothing, KUSTOM, for the first time since the company’s founding in Australia in the late 1990s.  Available at 18 selector retailers, pieces once only seen on the shoulders of Bella Hadid, A$AP Rocky and Hailey Bieber are going to be sold in a limited-edition run of less than 100 ready-to-wear items.  Of course, each one has been individually hand-customised in the KUSTOM tradition and expectation.

KSUBI was born when a group of friends became dissatisfied with the denim available in the Australian market at the time.  And so, they decided to bring a new voice to the denim-wear conversation that has since taken the brand global – thanks, in part, to the particular conversation around its KUSTOM service.  The company turned the marketing potential that came with the stories of 250 live rats released onto their 2001 inaugural catwalk show, into a dedicated following that has coveted their style ever since.

This catapulted KSUBI into the global fashion consciousness, and, in the years since, collaborations with the likes of Jeremy Scott, HIDJI WORLD and Travis Scott followed.  And with it came the natural progression to celebrity customisations.

For the capsule collection based on this foundation, we find artisanal denim jackets and jeans, trench coats, leather jackets, hoodies and sweatpants, and a range of accessories for both men and women.  But it’s the distinctive features, like handwritten graphic embroidery or the artistic application of bleach and dye, that makes each one unique.  The distinctive street culture roots are also embodied in the use of spray paint graffiti-style graphics and distressed finishing.  So, individually, or as a collection, it’s a real one-of-a-kind.
