Bottega Veneta SS23 Campaign

Jodi Bhachu-Smith takes a tour with Matthieu Blazy's new story

The new Bottega Veneta SS23 campaign invites us all to go on a journey to explore Matthieu Blazy’s notions on ‘craft in motion and quiet power’.  At the centre of the story is the Andiamo bag, in the latest expression of the signature intrecciato weave the luxury House is so famous for.  Of course, it shouldn’t be lost in translation that its name means ‘let’s go’ in Italian.  This familiar and universal call to action reflects Blazy’s campaign – everyone looks like they’re on the move to somewhere exotic and exciting

We see Kate Moss shot by Gaetano Pesce for the Bottega Veneta show.  Emma Balfour is captured in the natural surrounds nearby her coastal home in Australia.  Each one of the images shows a distinct character whose personalities help to tell the story and draw us in further.

For three of our cast, the Andiamo adds further subtext; seen being carried by both boys and girls in a celebration of its gender-neutral form.  Each one is styled differently, either by using its rounded handle or adjustable braided strap.  Eye-catching details like the iconic Knot emblem acting as a clasp adds a sculptural diversion to get lost in.  The overall silhouette alludes to a rich softness designed to fit seamlessly into modern-day life.  Either over the shoulder or carried in the hand, this is the ‘craft in motion’ behind the campaign.

The bag and the collection complement each other like two sides of the proverbial coin.  But even without the fashionable little accessory, we see the vibrancy and life Blazy is unlocking with his apparel.  Sometimes it’s by the beach, armed raised in victory, sometimes it’s just leaning against a wall laughing at an unseen friend’s joke.

From seaside suburbs to wild rocky landscapes, Bottega Veneta SS23 is about to help you get there.
