adidas LG2 SPZL and Liam Gallagher

The legendary frontman is on hand for a new sneaker update. By THE FALL.

In large part due to the size and reach of the company, there are many niches and facets to the global adidas brand.  One of the most intriguing stories in their repertoire is the Spezial offshoot and the connections it has cultivated to distinctively British subcultures since its resurgence in the 80s.  Over the years the designs have gone on to become a regular part of arts and music fashion in the UK.

Earlier this year we saw Merseyside-born actor Stephen Graham front a haunting pre-spring campaign for Spezial, and for the launch of the new colourway for the LG2 SPZL sneakers, legendary Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher returns to show off the next versions of his celebrated collaboration.

The new shoe marks the third joint release and comes on the back of Gallagher’s latest album, Knebworth 22.  To commemorate both adidas’ heritage and Liam’s musical legacy – and in keeping with the aforementioned music connections – the new iteration of the shoe (of course) made its debut supporting the singer/songwriter at London’s KOKO concert venue back in August.

The latest colourway pays homage to early iterations of the adidas Country – with a different mix of materials – combining a bottle green heel and stripes with a gum outsole and a chalk white upper.  Naturally, the icing on the cake is the artist’s instantly recognisable portrait in blue as a logo on the tongue.

The classic and unassuming style of the new LG2 SPZL blends perfectly with Gallagher’s own dressed down aesthetic.  And yet, despite that, we all know that there will be more to both of them than might first meets the eye.
