Simone Rocha SS24 – London Fashion Week
The Irish designer joins forces with Crocs for LFW. By Magdalen Manning
Inspired by Crocs’ renowned brand DNA, the Simone Rocha SS24 collection at London Fashion Week debuted three Crocs styles reimagined through the designer’s celebrated feminine aesthetic. Decorating the iconic footwear designs were signature peals, crystals and jet beading, delicate flowers, and in-built embellished Simone Rocha socks to add a bit of tongue-in-cheek.
Rocha’s artistic eye breathed new life into the now-iconic shapes to gracefully dovetail with an intricate collection unafraid to take risks. As each look danced down the catwalk, the versatility of both brands shone through and reinforced the riotous creativity that’s made each of them so popular with the fashion set.
For next summer, Rocha indulges in her trademark voluminous silhouettes and combinations of beautiful textures and innovative construction. Lightweight linens, semi-translucent organdie and lush satins adorned with ribbon bows captured the essence of romanticism, whilst ruched detailing exploded into billowing shapes.
Hyper-feminine tiered lace skirts rode shotgun alongside biker-inspired silver jackets to convey a sense of multipotentiality. Colours consisting of sugary opaque neutrals, burnished metallics, whimsical pastels and oxblood reds set the tone (literally). Pearl-encrusted roses, oversized bows and fly-away organza brought the ethereal feel of the flower garden inside and draped it over slender shoulders.
Playful caged headwear and knotted bead handbags trailing floor-skimming ribbons paid compliment to Rocha’s dreamy designs. A type of utilitarianism also found its way onto the catwalk through oversized cargo pockets, drawstring detailing and functional design. Parachute pants worn with precise tailoring or parka coats emblazoned with three-dimensional appliqués offered new possibilities of contrasting styles.
In the end, Rocha’s unmistakeably enchanting design codes took us on a welcome journey through her unique romantic universe. But, no matter which way she took us, all roads led back to her purpose – “For me, the most important thing is your own identity,” she once said, “if you have that, the rest will follow.”
