rag & bone A/W2021 Eyewear Project
r&b recruits two new faces to add some soul to their new eyewear campaign
During the summer of 2018, contemporary New York fashion brand rag & bone began a regular new project that invited the great and the good from the creative and entertainment fields to shoot for the campaign imagery of their r&b Eyewear collection. Previous luminaries of the project include artist Scott Campbell and actresses Kate Bosworth and former THE FALL collaborator, Lake Bell. For 2021 we find recent mini-series cast-mates Kristine Froseth and Charlie Plummer breaking out their personal iPhones and placing their trust their own styling instincts to shoot the new r&b Eyewear collection on the fabled streets of Brooklyn in the Big Apple.
In what may become a more permanent hangover from the pandemic era, r&b takes the new and somewhat novel step of letting the artists they’ve engaged this year essentially creative direct and shoot the project themselves. No expensive studios, big productions or exotic locations (unless you’re not an American). This time, it’s the simplicity and naturalism that wins the day. New York, like London, is a wonderful place to be when the sun is out, which means it makes the perfect backdrop to spotlight a range of new sunglasses – as long as you have a couple of sets of high cheekbones to dress them on. Enter Kristine and Charlie.
The added advantage of this new dynamic is that we all now get a glimpse into their own creative and artistic personalities. Without the pressure of staging shots or having to follow photographer directions, the result is a fresh and fun campaign punctuated with smiles and cheeky winks to the camera. Backdrops featuring Brooklyn Bridge and the East River provide the drama to contrast with the oversized translucent pink shades or wire frame optical glasses worn playfully on the tip of Kristine’s nose. The black rectangular frame shades worn by Charlie add an extra little dimension of cool with the subtle deep red lenses.
We may be heading into winter but we all know the sun always shines somewhere. And rag & bone – along with Kristine and Charlie – now have your back whenever it does.
