Burberry AW22 Pre-Collection

Georgia Hambury meets 'the family' for Burberry's latest collection release

Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer Riccardo Tisci recently teamed with Brazilian fashion model, social activist and close friend Lea T – to whom Tisci refers to as ‘my family’ – for the debut of his Burberry AW22 Pre-Collection in a new series called Friends and Family.  Meditating on the coming new normal, travel and friendship (facts of life that have been severely impacted by the events of the past two years) are beautifully translated throughout a collection that instinctively pulls from an affinity for exploration.

Captured by photographer Chris Rhodes, and set against a mix of natural lighting, textured ecru and clean white backdrops, each piece describes a unique sense of volume, weight and elegance.   The hairstyles also play an active character in the story.  The naturally coloured and kept styles deliberately reflect the collection’s environmental composition; and is underwritten even further by the numerous earthly colours used in the soft, eye-catching ensembles.  Tisci’s ambition to envision Burberry’s elite styles through the concept of identity and environment had the perfect setting.

The collection’s composite style epitomises the finesse Burberry is renowned for, whilst allowing each look to present its own unique sense of place to further the concept of identity.  Ever-present is the equilibrium of both vulnerability and sharpness – shown in the neutral palette of the peach-toned faux-fur contrasted against the map print accessories.   Elsewhere, green leather sock boots can be seen reflected on the accompanying white blouse – in the form of illustrated plant leaves – and in the ‘real world,’ shown in the green of the plant leaves to the foreground.

Familiar looks like the oversized trench silhouettes remain strong, forceful and structured, and yet those edges are softened by the smooth lines of the slides, sandals and sneakers poking out beneath draped hems.  The strength of the collection is itself a reflection of the mutual creative respect in Tisci and Lea T’s personal friendship.  As the designer himself says, “This series is about a celebration of identity, style and family.”
