Blumarine SS24 – Milan Fashion Week

Blumarine transforms Milan into a city of angels for SS24. By Magdalen Manning

Debuting at Milan Fashion Week, the new Blumarine SS24 collection epitomised a contemporary type of angelic fantasy, presented with captivating energy to elevate the famous aesthetic of the Blumarine Girl.  Playful, whimsical and enthralled in an undercurrent of divine eroticism, creative director Nicola Brognano depicted his muse through a lens of sensuality and free-spirt.

Enchanting crochet knits with low-cut necklines and jersey catsuits accented by swirling cut-outs embodied the essence of the latest vision – captivating, daring, spontaneous.  “Sensuality is expressive,” exclaimed the designer, “strong, modern, natural, with no romanticism.”  It’s a sentiment that set out the clear path of what was to follow.

In hues of sunset purples, luminous whites and midnight blacks, latter-day angels flitted across the catwalk dressed in slim silhouettes and with audacious transparency.  Life-sized wings accompanied by draped tunics brought with it a heavenly atmosphere, whilst clear PVC dresses studded with crystal rhinestones in matte resin amplified the designer’s desire to personify the “lightness of the summer season”.

Pointy heeled sandals peekabooed out from taut, skin-tight leggings atop micro-short, long-sleeved dresses to match the seduction of the oversized ‘B’ logo earrings that completed the look.  The new collection also saw the return of the iconic and beloved butterfly motif, morphing onto gorgeous shoulderless mini-dresses and incorporated into skimpy briefs and bustiers.

Butterflies were seen linking metallic chains that cinched short capri pants in golden leather, and as emblems on fun little rubber bags made in collaboration with the Italian brand FORBITCHES.  It all referenced the boundless frivolity and endless possibilities a summer can bring.  Airy blouses of cascading raw-hemmed ribbons in sheer limpid colours continued that theme and added a bit of red-carpet glamour with clear chokers, earrings, bangles and belts all adorned with the brand logo in shimmering rhinestones.

Blumarine SS24 was a collection in honour of ‘lightness,’ conceptualised through glimmering appliqués and pale tones.  An expression of natural luminescence with an edge of urban allure that could well be dressing the culture next summer.
