adidas for Prada Re-Nylon

Georgia Hambury takes a look at the new collaboration between the sportswear kings and Italian giants

For the third instalment of the ongoing creative collaboration between expert artisans Prada and sporting mogul adidas’, they have just debuted a capsule collection that delivers on each brand’s signature styles and codes, while also building on their innovative, eco-conscious evolution.  The new offering features clothing, footwear and bags, each adorned with Prada’s iconic metallic triangle logo branding and the adidas 3-stripe motif to cultivate a crisp and refined fusion of the two powerful symbols.

One of the most inspiring aspects of the collection is the utilisation of Prada’s Re-Nylon textile; the product of a partnership between Prada and textile yarn producer Aquafil, and made from discarded plastic that can be recycled endlessly without affecting the quality of the material.  Those who know Prada know Miuccia has been using nylon for her collections since 1979, when the brand shifted focus away from using traditional leather.  Similarly, adidas has been steadily moving towards their own lofty sustainability goals throughout their product creation in recent times.  With this monochromatic new collection, we have an execution on not only both brands’ environmental aims, but also their commitment to defined silhouettes and striking contrasts.  The looks present as alluringly comfortable and functional pieces, as is traditional for adidas, while being elevated by the sharp utilitarian eye that Prada is renowned for globally.

Angular cuts are featured throughout the tracksuit, track coat, sweater and hooded jacket to deliver a defined reimagining of the adidas iconic tracksuit first designed in 1967.  The V-neckline on the classic sweater mirrors the angles of Prada’s famous to the left-hand side of the chest.  And, some looks are even figuratively and literally topped off with a crisp, tonal bucket hat in black or white, à la Run DMC.  As if to lean into that ‘80s rap gods theme, the footwear for this collaboration is a re-formulation of the adidas Originals Forum shoe, in the high or low silhouette and crowned with the addition of Prada’s mini-pouch attachments.  Like Run DMC said, “They’re black and white, white with black stripe.  The ones I like to wear when I rock the mic.”  Which ones will you be rocking?
